Community Guidelines

Our Community has just a couple of rules.  Take a look at the guidelines below, and let us know if you have any questions!

1.  Keep it constructive

Please respect the Community by keeping your comments constructive and your tone positive as much as possible. It’s okay to complain sometimes, but conversations should remain productive and focused on solutions.  There’s a big difference between a well-reasoned critique, and an angry rant; we always welcome the former, but we ask you to refrain from the latter. At the end of the day, you’re here to help, encourage and support one another, and to learn how to get the most out of Thumbtack.

2. Keep it kind

We understand that people sometimes disagree.  But please be respectful of others in the Community, even if you don’t see eye to eye. This includes refraining from mean-spiriting comments, jabs or personal attacks, whether they’re directed at other pros or Thumbtack employees.  Additionally, please do not intimidate or discourage others from participating, or from voicing opinions that might be different than yours. Let’s strive for good vibes.

3. Keep it relevant

Please make sure your contributions are relevant to the mission of the Community and to the specific discussion board where you post. Please do not post duplicate messages on multiple boards, or post the same message multiple times. And if you want to change the direction or content of a conversation, please start a new thread.  For example, you shouldn’t post about pricing on a thread about reviews. Keep in mind that while we hope you can use the Community to meet other pros, there’s a fine line between networking and soliciting. Spam will be removed.

4. Keep it private

We hope that conversations within the Community are open and honest, but please do not share anything about yourself or your business that you would want to keep private. Additionally, please do not share the personal information of a customer, a Thumbtack employee, or another pro (full names and contact information in particular may be removed), or post anything that might violate another person’s sense of privacy.

5. Keep it appropriate

This should be obvious, but profanity and obscenity have no place in the Community. We all get excited sometimes, but please save the curse words for someplace else. Racism, hate speech, discriminatory speech and/or bullying will not be tolerated. Let’s build a safe environment for everyone.

6. Keep it legal

When posting within the Community, please keep in mind you are agreeing to follow all applicable laws. Please use the Community for lawful purposes only.

7. Keep it in perspective

You'll find plenty of great advice here, but please remember that your business and individual situation may vary from that of another pro.  Some of the advice you find might not work for you; some of it might even be wrong.  Apply the same good judgment here that you would apply to information anywhere on the Internet.
