Hey! I’m Carson, and I’m the Product Manager responsible for profiles.

 

At Thumbtack, we’re always working to help you get hired more. Using your Thumbtack profile to showcase your business and the quality service you provide is one of the best tools you have in your toolbelt.

 

You told us it’s important to highlight what sets your business apart, and we heard you! Here’s a glimpse at some of the upcoming features you can expect to see on your profile:

 

  • Soon, you’ll be able to highlight past projects, link to social media, and display your past and current Top Pro status. You’ll also be able to tell customers the payment methods you accept so they know what to expect at the end of the project. These changes help customers get an even better sense of your style and what it’s like to work with you.
  • We’ll be improving the way images and reviews appear so you can be confident in what customers see when they visit your profile. Our goal is to give you the chance to put your best foot forward.
  • As we go, we’ll make improvements to how you visually display your work and tell your story on your profile. You’ll have the opportunity to customize what’s included in your service and show off your credentials and awards. Ultimately, we want your Thumbtack profile to be your go-to online identity for your business.

 

We’re working hard to get there. But we want to hear from you.

 Allow different hours of operation for different days. 
ex my hours on weekend are different from weekday.

I would like to have a place to bullet list the main services we offer. It would be great to have a Services Offered, or Top Services Offered.

I would like to see "commerical drone pilot" under the section "Professsional Licenses". All commerical drone pilots are required to be licensed through the FAA.  This would allow customers to see you a legit commerical operatior and not just a hobbiest trying to make an extra dime.

You currently have a "remote pilot" selection that does not work correctly.  FAA licenses are nation wide, not by state.

I would like to see the ability to chat with customers in real time as their viewing my profile.

I love the idea about a more stylish way to have photos! I twould be great to have video previews on the mobile, and the link to social media. It means a lot to be able to display what style we bring with the services we offer, specifically in the mobile app!

I think that there sould be a separate photo gallery for each different service a business offers. Whether this happens automatically, depending on which service a customer requests...  or a viewer gets a to choose between several galleries for different services. People feel more comfortable when the Pro they are viewing specializes in the skill they are seeking.

I'll second what Timothy suggested, and go one step further.  I'd like to *disable* the ability of a customer to leave their own images in the review.   By the time the customer has a) picked the wrong image to showcase, b) transferred it around their devices a bunch of times or screen-grabbed it from their facebook page, c) OMG possibly applied some modifications or filter to it, and d) TT has sized it down, it can look like oatmeal.

I'm a photographer, so images are key to me.   But if i were a contractor, or cleaner, or groomer,  I'd still want to control all the imagery related to my brand.

BTW, I saw the prototype of new profile ideas at SelfMade, and I can say thumbs up to everything that was in there.....

Here are a couple of suggestions for consideration:

1 . You have a button for professional licenses; however, I don't see a place to select my credentials.  For instance, I have a Ph.D. which in my work is my professional credential. 

2. An area to provide links to our professional materials. For instance, I write a lot of blog articles for my area of expertise.  If I was allowed to provide a link to a hot topic/blog article I wrote it would help build my credibility with the prospective client.

I would like the option for clients to have a time limit when responding to a bid. This way we as professionals won't be in the dark guessing and wondering if they will hire one of us or not. If they don't respond in a certain, we get to set the time limit and have that request deleted versus having it archived. Time and money being spent on bidding is what is potentially hurting Thumbtack now. I would like my profile to have a voice greeting/introductory link portion of ourselves, in addition to our bio, so clients will know who we are before meeting us in person. Or even an option for us to edit our responses. I hate when i'm responding by smart phone and i can't correct a mistake and have to retype what i meant in the next line.

I would like to see a link to our yelp reviews, rather than try to "get reviews" and bother my clients, or see redundancies. As part of my messaging to clients i do put in a request for them to review those, but i think it would be handier to directly have it there. At the same time of course it might be risky as you never know what shows up there, as there are always pros and cons. Wondering what your view of that is of course...

Don’t punish our pro status when we don’t stay up with thumbtacks guidelines. In other words, I’m getting referrals from Thumbtack customers so I’m not using the website as often. (Isn't that the great part about using Thumbtack.) As we grow we begin to get more referrals which accounts for less activity on Thumbtack. I’ve been using Thumbtack since I started the business 4 years ago. I have tried numerous other advertising methods and have always stayed with Thumbtack and will continue. Thumbtack has built my business😀😀😀😀.

Maybe the Thumbtack images could be divided into albums: Wedding, Architectural, etc. That way, potential clients would see just the photos they are interested in.

It would be nice to have separate albums to highlight the variety of specific services I offer. Also would be nice to have a more streamlined way to connect with legit, potential clients. Maybe if they were required to verify payment first or something it will help filter out the unlegit requests.

I would REALLY, REALLY , like to be able to post audio files directly on my profile, NOT you tube files,  AUDIO.  That way  potential customers can imediately get a sample of my songs.  I am a singer, and people want to hear how I sound.  When the do hear me they are MUCH more likely to book a show.  I think this would help any of the music acts that use yur service.

The top Pro credentials need to based on how people reviewing you not all this new stuff you started doing this year also I want to know how much it cost to send somebody a quote I'm sick of this not knowing why did that change

A place to enter certifications. Currently there is only a place for university degrees, however when it comes to being a personal trainer, fitness or nutrition coach these certifications are important and are part of our education.

Would also like to have the ability to live chat a customer if we are both online, rather than using the inbox.

Also an option to be listed as an online personal trainer, or nutrition coach (not RD).. Expansion of profiles to conver off on other services provided.

I am a traveling personal chef and would like to be able to reach multiple markets at once. For example, I would like to offer my services in Beverly Hills, CA, Buckhead, (Atlanta), GA, New Orleans, LA, and New York, NY simultaneously without opening multiple profiles.

I’m looking at my cell phone’s profile and if this is how most clients see the profile, it’s very sparse. How about a large profile image that can be made larger by a click? More than one link to social profiles? Like 4..? And a way to categorize a group of images. If a client wants a pet only job, they might not want to scrol through every Photo example.

Definitely the ability to upload clips from mobile would be helpful. I know that we have to be on a desktop device and upload a clip from YouTube but that’s not cutting it these days. Many people want to see a tidbit of what we can do, so similar to uploading photos from our phone (whether we took them ourselves or a guest sent them to us), video from mobile upload would be incredible!

Right know you will list areas I am licensed in but not areas I am trained in where licenses are not offered such as the Premarital facilitator training that I have with Prepare/Enrich. I would like to let people know that I am a qualified facilitator.

I would like to see more options on breaking down the price factors for example I mostly do a 8 lesson package and there seems to always be some confusion when I can only put 65 dollars as the price. Some people think that's for the entire package. So if you added to the menu a package breakdown in ie number of lessons in the package cost discount Etc that would be a great feature. Secondly if there was some way that we could do a video on our profile of us giving a lesson are talking about ourselves or both. Thank you for trying to improve your product. Dennis Hicks

I would like to be a personal chef f or a family for 3 hours per day 13 dollars per hour Mon. To Fri. Using their food or going shopping with their credit card. At this time your site is not user friendly for my needs. I was also turned off by the fact. You won't accept my certification for food safety m a management.

HELP! How do I stop receiving notifications from this thread?

I would like the profile to have an interactive feature that may answer common questions that users have before they contact a pro.

 

For instance:

-am I within the pro's traveling distance?

-how much would this cost for a specific amount of time?

-what is the process of scheduling with the pro?

 

I seem to always get these questions, and many times after they are answered, the user changes their mind. 

This subsequently charges me the pro, for a contact, and the user disappears.

 

If these questions are able to be answered in some sort of interactive fashion on the profile, it would save both the pro and the user a significant amount of time and energy.

I like my profile. An area I feel like could be improved is maybe the pictures could be better for a specials and things.

I asked them to do this months ago. They simply do not know, nor care, of the differences between different certifications.

I am a paramedic and they refuse to acknowledge my certifications for ACLS, BCLS, PALS. It took a week of me arguing with them before they accepted my California Paramedic license which is issued by the government.

Here are some ideas;
1. The profile view should not be limited to US residents only. I had a problem last year while I was in India and I tried to click the thumtack icon on my website and I ended up getting an error that "Thumbtack is only available in US". The visitors to my website, regardless of their country if origin, should be able to view my profile even though they cannot avail my services
2. I have been receiving follow up questions from customers who are interested in my profile asking me " the profile looks interesting, what's next?" We should make thumbtack smart enough to guide the customer with the next steps such as scheduling a time and location for the service, scheduling a phone call etc.. this will improve customer experience, minimize back and forth communication between service provider and consumer, improve chances of getting hired and reduce costs for service providers. I currently end up paying around ~$20 Everytime a customer reaches out to me for Health and Nutrition consultation with a question "Sounds good, what's next!?" And when I respond back to them I never hear back.

A nice feature in adding how pros accept payment.

In a separate note: Not referring to profile: Can your IT department tweak the review area. When we submit reviews online to customers, the system should not automatically check “hired.”

It would be nice to have a Buddy Button.  How it works,  I do mostly Crown Moldings and Base boards but do to health and aging reason I dont like to paint any more.  The buddy button could hook the home owner up with a painter in the area to bid with me to get the job done on time with little hassle.  another example I do a lot of Base and shoe molding. I would love to buddy with someone that does flooring but maybe doesnt have the time to do the base and shoe.  We bid as seperate companies but trying to complete the job together.  I stop shopping with the intent to making it easy to find the specialty trades that will do the best job.

 

Instead of loosing Base boards bids to a painter.  Who may be good at painting but is not a Finish Carpenter.

I would love to see information regarding responses to my quotes. I would love to see something interactive with them my profile aside from attaching videos or images. I would love to be linked to social media. I think it would be really cool if thumbtack providers could group together In order to network and help each other out with clients. Finally as a visual person it will be Cool if there was some type of background

Thumbtack has been my main spot to get jobs although it's kind of annoying when I pay for potential clients who respond with "oh that's nice" and then never respond back, so I'm basically paying for someone who can't respond back.

I also wish that they would be able to highlight that we are CPR Certified and Insured. A lot of people with in my industry are hobbyist and it would be great if Thumbtack would be able able to differentiate between a profesional and a hobbyist, most people who are hobbyist are not CPR certified and Insured.

Ability to paste awards achieved from other referral sources.

I am not aware that thumbtack has such awards.

I’d like a general quote or greeting to be pinned to the top. Before instant match I had a general quote I Disney out and I got more business with less out put that way. Now they just see a price and who knows if there is incentive to read the entire profile.

this is a amazing site,  several friends got great leads form it.  Customer service is superb, i had great experience calling in and getting answer to my question.  In my opinion  thumback should  refine contractors by  asking for Certificate of insurance and liability,  EIN  number among other things.  It is hard to compete with people that don't pay taxes  or work illegally.

I love to learn that some improvements is coming .

Contractor should be able to upload a brochure or new letter.

This may already be in the works, but I want to be able to hit people with who I am right off the bat; and I like to do that through video. A slot where a profile picture or a business logo might normally go, a slot with a video that starts right away would be great. A "welcome". Vendors could have the option to record a selfie-type video for that slot, maybe it's a max of 10-15 seconds... or that slot could have a video clip uploaded of our choosing. Just like facebook/instagram/twitter, this could stream automatically when potential customers visit the page, and they can opt in/out of volume so we don't disrupt the meeting they're supposed to be in.

Another big change I would like to see is the ability to showcase video more easily, and separate from photo. Right now it's hard for customers to distinguish photo from video in the profile. Even if they do, it's hard to get someone to click on it. If we can structure the profile/homepage to designate optional space to stream videos automatically, even from within Thumbtack's own website (i.e. not necessarily having to be a youtube link), that can greatly benefit those of us who offer it... and it can really benefit anyone who likes to use the super powers of video. I realize this creates more content control issues, but ALmost everyone who is trying to sell a service will be making a goal to put their best foot(age) forward on something like this.
