I am sitting here in my office and I have logged in to Thumbtack with two different computers. These two computers are accessing the internet at the same time via the same modem and the same ISP. My rank is different on one computer compared to the other computer.
What reasonable explanation is there for this difference?
@HansenJC it might be tough to determine exactly what the differing factor is there. When doing the search were you looking under the same type of job and filters? Was the zip code the same? Were you using two different browsers?
The zip code is the same.
No filter for job parameters is applied. So, it shows me the "Prices Start At...."
The only job I am interested in is Home Inspections.
The browser is only showing what your server sends out as HTML. However, they are the same browser on both computers. Why would you even consider that the sort order (rank) of the Pros would be impacted by a browser?
@Kameron Ok, so now I test three different browsers on the same computer. And the rank order is different on one of the three browsers. How can that possibly be true? How can a browser affect rank or the sort order of the HTML?
The search results varying by browser is indeed common. We are always looking for ways to better tailor our search results to our customers. Customers may see slightly different things at different times or in different places so we can learn what works best. Are you seeing that your ranking is dramatically different from one to the other or are they relatively close?
They are not even close. I feel strongly that a Browser should not impact the Rank. Rank should be controlled strictly by Thumbtack. I sent you a screen shot of two different browser images taken within seconds of each other.
Same Zip Code
Same Job Category - Home Inspection
No filtering by job size
I expect a browser not to influence the ranking in any way.
Please add this as a formal request for a change to the Thumbtack Pro Ranking Algorithm to return the same rank regardless of the browser that is being used.
AND untill this is corrected.... add this fact to the article that answers the question why one Pro is ranked #1 for one browser and #3 for another browser. This defies reason.
Yesterday. I was told I would get an email update later in the evening but I have got nothing. Not even an email to confirm that a case has been opened. (Except, I did get a Survey request) And no follow up today either.
