Somehow i auto enrolled in targeting and prefer to be pitched the gig first and then charged if i send a quote. I don’t not want to be charged for leads without first approval. Thank you!

Hey there @Acb2019!

I definitely understand wanting to evalaute the lead prior to deciding whether you want to respond or not. I double-checked your account, and I can see that you have paused Targeting on your account. Right now you will manually review and quote on jobs available in the Jobs Tab.

Targeting your Preferences is the way you can let us know whether or not you want the lead beforehand. You can narrow down the types of jobs you are wanting in your Job Preferences as well as the specific location from where the leads come from in your Travel Preferences.

The great thing about Thumbtack, is that we provide tools that all work in tandem with each other. The Budget tool for example will help you control the amount you are spending when Targeting preferences on a weekly basis, and your Calendar tool will help you block out days that you know you're already booked for in advance. We want you to be in control of the types of leads you receive, and utilzing these tools together help make it possible!

I would definitely recommend Targeting your Preferences to get the best leads that are tailored to you.

@Jupiter I have my times set as preferences for my Targetted services. If leads come in that match my other preferences, but are scheduled outside my time preferences, do they go in my inbox?

Why do we not get right of first refusal before being auto charged? I should be able to make the final decision on whether or not I want to take the job.

Hi @Hankster ,

Great question - When you target your preferences you are preselecting the jobs you always want to pay for.

By telling us the type of jobs you want within your targeting preferences, we can then put you in front of the customers you want. In addition, auto charging pros for the jobs they want also helps improve the customers experience. Since you already know this customer exactly matches your preferences and you have already been charged, you can move right into the important business of responding quickly and trying to win that job!

Auto charging only apllies for exact matches, so make sure you only select the jobs you always want.

I need to figure out why I’m not getting leads for exterior painting. I also am not getting any leads for interior painting either.

Hello @Isaacmeyerpaint

I took a look at your account and I do see you're Targeting your Preferences which is fantastic. The only thing in regards to your preferences that I wanted to bring to your attention is that specifically for Interior Painting, you have opted out of 1 and 2 room painting. So if a customer is ever looking specifically for 1 or 2 bedroom painting you won't appear in their Search Result at all since you've stated you aren't wanting to work those jobs.

I did a Search Result for both Interior and Exterior Painting jobs in your main zip code, and you actually came up as the first pro in both of my searches which is awesome! So I wanted to go over opportunities in your Profile that we could easily tweak to help increase your Profile Strength and get more customers your way.

The first thing I noticed is that you have 3 verified reviews which are all from jobs you won on Thumbtack. Did you also know you could get up to 10 offsite reviews from jobs you have worked outside of Thumbtack? You can get your specific review link by clicking on "Get more reviews" in your Profile. You can email this link, or text it directly to customers who you have worked with in the past. So this could easily taking you from 3, to 13 reviews on your Profile!

Another thing I would suggest would be to feature a Past Project. Sharing photos in your sections is definitely great, sharing your Past Projects helps you get a little bit more granular and gives customers a better idea of what they can expect from working with you in regards to cost and materials that may be needed, you can even choose to feature a project from a verified review you've received on Thumbtack.

Lastly, taking a background check can help customer feel comfortable and confident in hiring you. Similarly to how you have your business license listed, a background check will help customers see you are credibile and realiable. A background check is also new metric being added to Top Pro, so taking it will help get you prepared for the next Top Pro class. With a few small tweaks to your profile, you may be seeing more success and more customers reaching out to work with you!

Re: Need some help with targeting? Our Thumbtack specialists are here to help you!

Why does Thumbtack consider a lead who specifies a budget of say $150-$200 an 'exact match' and automatically charge me for that lead when my pricing preferences (as set by myself) clearly specify that my fees start at $350.

I only want to 'target' leads who can afford to hire me. The fact that Thumbtack automatically charges me for leads who specify a budget below my minimum hiring fee is exceptionally annoying.

If a lead does not have the budget to hire me then how in good conscience can Thumbtack consider that lead to be an 'exact match'.

Laurence

Hi @Lar ,

I know it's important to be able to target customers who's budget is realistic for your services. Often, the customer may not be aware of what a fair or usual price is for a service, so we allow you to display your pricing up front and for the customer to contact the pro they are interested in, and let you work with that specific customer and their needs.

We also have a targeting filter that allows you to select the customer budgets you always want to work with. So if your fees start at $350, you may want to consider removing any budgets lower than that from from your jobs preferences.

We hope this helps get you the exact matches your want but for both you and the customer we want to make sure to leave room to negotiate pricing once you two start working on the project.
