We also have a targeting filter that allows you to select the customer budgets you always want to work with. So if your fees start at $350, you may want to consider removing any budgets lower than that from from your jobs preferences.
Wouldn't work for me mate.
Example. A stage show is $850 ... close up show is $500 and walkaround magic is $350 for 1 hour. Thumbtack's tageting preferences do not allow me to specify minimum budgets individually for stage show, close-up show and walkaround. If I set my budget preferences to exclude everything less than $300 then if someones budget is $300-$400 and they want a close-up show ($500) or a stage show ($850) then I'm not interested in that lead because they can't afford to hire me but I will still be charged because Thumbtack considers the lead to be an exact match.
The targeting preferences that Thumbtack uses need to take into account that different types of jobs may have different minimum budgets.
Follow up question related to budgets/pricing.
For walkaround magic I charge by the hour as does virtually every Magician in the industry, so my fee for a 1 hour gig will be less than for a 4 hour gig. The lead specifies the duration when they enter their details.
Thumbtack only allows me to enter a flat rate for walkaround magic.
What this means is that a lead may enter details for a 4 hour gig and specify a budget of $300-$400 and Thumbtack will treat this as an exact match and automatically charge me. My fee for a 4 hour gig is not going to be the same as for a 1 hour gig. When I contact the lead and quote my fee for 4 hours it ends up being 100's of dollars more than the Lead's budget and they cannot afford to hire me.
For targeting to be of any benefit to Pros the very least it should do is ensure that the Pro's fees and the Lead's budget are in the same ballpark before treating the lead as an exact match.
@Lar thanks for expanding with some thoughts on this. Remember that filtering based on a customers budget is still relatively new. We'll make sure to log this feedback about how we could possibly go deeper with the customer budget preference for types of jobs.
I've taken a look at your account and can see you've got an amazing Profile! I can see how having your preferences be a bit more specific and granular in the ways you described could help you be more successful with this great profile you have. I'm going to send this Targeting suggestion over to our Product team. We appreciate the ideas professionals have and a lot of the changes we implement on the platform are actually from suggestions from professionals like you. Don't ever hestitate to contact us to let us know your suggestions and insights! We only win when pros win too!
I'd love to join this service as an occupational therapist. Is there a reason that you do not have a category for us?
I noticed you have physical therapy. You may also want to consider a category of speech therpist.

Hi @KarinaOT ,
Thank you for letting us know you would like to see these services available on Thumbtack.
New services are only added after careful planning and research to make sure they're right for our platform. We always review suggestions for new services because we want to continue making Thumbtack a better experience for pros like you. That being said, I will be sure to share your requests!
I have been kind of starting to go crazy! I have spent over $250 just in a week and 88% of those leads I am getting do not match what I have. We as pros have quoted prices for a specific reason if I am correct. But, I keep getting charged for leads where thier budget is not even close to the quoted price. I dont know what to do. I am a single disabled mom and my photography is everything to me. But, If I keep having to push out this much money Im going to have to stop. I do not wan to STOP! I love blessing others with the talents I have been blessed with. I am constantly following up on leads, offering them absolute amazing prices. I have been told by David Molnar that my photography is absolutely stunning....Why am I paying for leads that dont match my quotes...Why am I not being hird after spending alsmost now $300. It seems like when I have a balance tons of leads come through.....idk but Idk I need help so I can sta with Thumbtack to keep my dream alive.
Hello there @Creationsbybeth!
David Molnar was correct, you have stunning photography available on your Profile! This is also a fantastic question by the way. Your pricing and the customer's budget is negotiaable depending on the Project itself. For an example, let's say we have a scenario where a customer budget matches your pricing. Let's say this customer wants to extend their session for an hour. We want this to be flexible for the customer, as well as you so that you are able to let the customer know that with additional services there is also is going to be an additional cost.
The pricing in the Q&A section in your Profile is something you can utilize as well. Currently, in your Profile, I see that you say you can work with projects as small as $50. If a customer reads this, they may be wanting to reach out to you, even though you may not necessarily want to work projects this small as stated in your Targeting Preferences. Explaning a breakdown of your costs (duration of the photoshoot, travel fees to the location, digital or physical prints and how many etc) in this section can help give the customer a proper expectation of the value they are going to receive for the price they are going to pay.
Thank you so much! I see that can definately be a reason why this could be happening. I truly appriciate your time and words of wisdom.
Thank you so much again,
