Privacy Change - Lost Prospect Last Name

Solved! Jump to solution

How is it legal that we are paying for leads and now suddenly cannot even search for them to follow up or send more information with the removal of their last name? I quote hundreds of people on here a month. I was told it was due to privacy law changes, but what about our rights as pros who are paying for this platform to even run?

@EvoCoachKris customers have always been able to choose how much of their information that they'd like to share on the site and with the pro. Although a name is required when customers fill out their information to create a job. When the job is shown in the Jobs page you'll see the first name and last initial. When a customer has reached out to you directly the name listed on their account will be shown. You'll be able to find the message in your inbox with the name they have listed on their acct. In regards to any additional information, many times customers want to wait to share their information with a pro until they've initiated and had some conversation first and we want to allow them to do so at the point that they feel comfortable.

FYI - they may be in the midst of making changes right now because I can click into people randomly and will see their last name in the actual messaging. This is still not helpful for searching but perhaps not as bad as I initially thought.

No More Last Names???

Solved! Jump to solution

So now we don't even get a last name? This after eliminating the "Viewed" from our sent quotes? I think Thumbtack is now completely dead to me.  How can a company keep making changes that make it harder and harder for its main customers to use and benefit from?  This complete lack of transparency is unbelievable.

Who benefits from all these changes?

@beep777 I'd like to look into this for you. Can you tell me more about where you're seeing this?

It has always been that just the first name and last initial would appear when the customer posted a job. It used to be that I could see the first AND last name in my "Sent Quotes" after I replied to the job posting. Now i am just seeing a first name and last initial in my "Sent Quotes". I would believe that my responding to this customer would get me a little more information about who I am dealing with.

@beep777 Thanks for clarifying. I was able to get some information on this. Since moving to the search results experience for customers there were some inconsistencies on this and updates were made to correct it. Going forward customers names will be displayed to the pro as:

  • Inbox - Customer's first name last initial
  • Messenger for Sent Quotes - Customer's first name last initial
  • Messenger if the lead has been paid for (promote or accepted opt-in contact) - Customer's full first and last name

Ugh, this is a terrible change! It certainly doesn't benefit pros, as we now have no way to 'research' the client's legitimacy or his/her company when this info isn't provided. There have been multiple times when customer doesn't respond to my thumbtack message but will if I reach out to them independently after they've viewed my quote.
