customer didnt pay

I have a pet sitting job ive done and i havent been paid its been four days since i took the keys. they have told me multiple things and im just lost on what to do i have recordings of phone calls and screenshots of messges. 1st it was spouse isnt home to pay 2nd we will send it in just a sec 3rd we are waiting on a check to clear , ive read other discussions and it seems thumbtack wont help. is this a loss?
