If you’re not getting hired on Thumbtack, check your profile. Chances are it needs something extra to show customers why they should hire you. Here’s what you might be missing.
Pros with five or more reviews are on average twice as likely to be hired on Thumbtack. Customers like reviews because it gives them a picture of what you do and how you work.
Thumbtack makes it easy to ask for a review by automatically sending an email to customers when you mark yourself hired. But it doesn’t hurt to follow up. Here’s an example:
It’s me again, hope you’re great as ever! I know you’re busy, but could you write me a quick review at this link: [custom review link]? It only has to be a sentence or two, and I know my new clients will love hearing your story.
Thanks so much!
A professional headshot.
Pros with strong headshots are significantly more likely to be hired on Thumbtack. Here’s how to do it right, from Thumbtack photographer Tri Nguyen.
Smile. Customers like a friendly face.
Pick a bright background: Light and polished backgrounds look more professional than dark and heavy ones.
Dress crisp and clean: Dress for what you do — but look fresh. Professionalism is key to a good headshot.
There’s a reason why people say a picture paints a thousand words. Use your photos and videos to tell a story about great work — like jobs that you’re proud of, or specialist services that you offer. Great images build customer trust even before they hire you. Make sure the photos and videos are high quality, up to date, and that you have permission to use them.
Don’t upload something from every job, by the way. Multimedia artist Albert Benichou says, “On Thumbtack, only include the best of the best.”
