Meeting new customers and getting hired: it’s why you’re here. And we want to help you. We’ve heard pros say time and time again that as long as they can get the customer to talk to them, they can usually close the deal. So here are some of our best tips for doing just that.
Be quick about it
Imagine what’s going through the customer’s mind after they reach out. It’s a safe bet to assume they want to hear back from you as soon as possible. If you can get back to them while they’re still online, that’s even better. Give customers exactly what they want by replying fast.
Personalize it (but keep it short)
It’s all about the simple things in life. Greeting a customer by name and mentioning specific details about the job (and yourself) may be all it takes to catch the customer’s attention. Make it easy reading for customers by keeping messages short and to the point. If they want more info, they’ll ask for it.
Share your wisdom
So you're fast, but it takes more than that. What are you saying in your messages? If the customer asked you a question, make sure you answer it. And if they don’t ask a question, share some helpful basics. Even if you’re brief, you show them you’re listening.
Give them something to act on
What’s the next step? Don't keep it to yourself, tell the customer, too. They’re just as ready as you to cross off another to-do, so give them a gentle nudge in the right direction.
Don’t just take our word for it. Here’s a pro who was able to find more success on Thumbtack by improving their response time.
