Thumbtack worked fairly well for me for a while, with what I do, but has gone downhill fast. I was only getting charged for a customer contact that didn't pan out maybe once or twice out of every five. Now its more than half the time, and it takes two of my jobs that I do get to cover what has been taken out of my account. The customers are oblivious to the fact the pros are being charged, when they send out blanket messages to ALL that quoted, thus all pros being charged. This is unreasonable. There needs to be a set fee, a smaller fee for initial customer contact, then maybe another fee when the customer marks you as hired. It borders on being unethical to NOT inform the customer, nothing written on the website, that the pros they are contacting will be charged, regardless of whether they hire them.
