Hi Vinamrata, I’m a software developer and I understand where you’re coming from. I used to be on a pricing team for pricing as well so I know exactly where you’re at right now. But I’m here on thumbtack as a photographer. With that being said, I love the “learn more” link. It allows me to know what I’ll get charged for the lead instead of before when it was “surprise! You got charged $60!”....for a $200 job >:( that’s like more than 20% commission for you guys...minus my expenses I’m only making less than half profit. But glad that’s in the past. I still feel like thumbtack is a community of a RANGE of skill level professionals. You need to cater to the amateur pros that are starting off their business and taking lowball jobs ($100 for a 4hr session ) to gain experience and build their portfolio, aka me. You should also get your moneys worth from the professionals that are making like $2000 for a 4hr job, hopefully me in the future. That makes a huge difference when the fee is $60. Most of the pros already get jobs easily and the fee is nothing for them but it’s everything for the amature. You need to help the amatures get jobs, that’s how you grow your community of pros and how you help nurture those amatures so they can become pros, make more themselves, and in turn you can charge those pros more eventually and make more yourself! The solution is simple really, just look at how much experience they claim to have on their profile, and the more they claim, the more you charge them! I say instead of discounting jobs for new users give them free leads for a year if they just started out less than a year ago. That’s what Netflix does, that’s what amazon prime does, or any major streaming service.
