Because Thumbtack is a competitive marketplace, the prices should be reflected upon that aspect instead of basing a project by the going rate outside of Thumbtack. When I bid against other graphic designers, they lower their price to compete. it's extremely competitive when your pricing against 5 other designers hungry for the same job. I think it's more productive the way Amazon handles it's services, by having the jobs at a going rate and taking commision based on that rate. So let's say you want your house cleaned -- Amazon bases the rate on $45.00 per hour...the buyer/prospect elects to purchase the cleaning and pays Amazon, Amazon then gives the house cleaning company it's cut to do the job say maybe for $35.00 per hour. Everyone is happy. The new changes in pricing at Thumbtack have been really hard to understand and work with. They rates seemed to skyrocket and the jobs are way harder to get.
