I had the same thing happen to me recently: https://community.thumbtack.com/t5/Advanced-Thumbtack/I-ve-come-to-the-conclusion-Thumbtack-is-not-worth-it-because/td-p/35944/jump-to/first-unread-message Someone contacted me, i replied right away asking for a little more information. They didn't respond - i sent them a folllow up message a day or two later but they never responded to that. SEVEN months later they posted a 1 star review saying how horrible my service is. They offered zero explanation. I responded to their review within a minute asking what the problem was since i never actually did any work for them. They never gave me their contact info so I couldn't have even discussed the job outside of TT with them. And TT did absolutely nothing, wouldn't even let me talk to someone who is responsible for removing reviews. If i wanted to be a complete jerk, i could make a throw away email account, contact a bunch of pros in my area and then anytime in the next year, leave a 1 star review no matter what the pro said or didn't say. And TT considers that a valid review. The only way TT is going to change their policy is enough of complain about it, and failing that, if enough of stop spending money. Which is exactly what I have done. I deleted all my payment info from thumbtack. It's a complete waste of time spending money on here if anyone can come along at any time and completely destroy your reputation. I encourage everyone else to delete your payment info. That's the only thing for sure that would get TT attention.
