Dear Cameron, please be so kind and send this letter to Marco Zappa from one of your Pros. Thank you. Annerose Hello, Annerose. I too am a massage therapist. I haven't had any new clients from Thumbtack for 4-6 months now because I refuse to play their new game of sending out the same client request for massage to twice-three times as many potential clients than in the past when the company sent out the request to "up to five" massage therapists. AND on top of that insanity, charge pros for contact that doesn't end up with us being hired; In other words, we pay a very high price for anything Thumbtack does that's good for pros such as Instant Match. I never use it because when I tried it, I got charged just under $11 when a potential client sent me a message, not hiring me, just making contact. Thumbtack ended up making lots of money off our backs with this new deal, that's no "deal" at all except for the owner of Thumbtack. I've been with Thumbtack for about 4 years now. It used to be a relatively good way of making at least some income, in fact, the only way I had to make any income, pretty much saving my ___ after such a long giant recession that destroyed my business so for me it was really an economic depression. In this respect, as it was my only source of income other than Social Security, Thumbtack was an answer to a prayer as I finally started to make income. Then about a year ago, all of that changed, like night and day.
Thumbtack used to be a good deal and a risk I was willing to take as the company has to make money on the deal some way and at least it didn't take a percentage of what we charge per hour for massage therapy, only asking that I pay $3.34 per quote. This seemed fair to me since I only had to compete with four other massage therapists for the same job. This was Thumbtack's original business model when I signed on. There's an old saying: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." I have three regular clients I see weekly that all came to me via Thumbtack for the last 2-3 years. However, 99% of the business I got all along for four years straight (I've been hired far more than over 70 times as I never reported all of the people I saw just because I forgot to say I had been hired) were not "regulars" but "one-timers," meaning they had pain issues and as soon as I got rid of their pain in one or two sessions, mostly one session, they either couldn't afford to come back, and just didn't value massage enough to come even once a month, let alone twice a month or weekly. This means A LOT when you consider they tell you on the phone that it takes an average of sending out quotes EIGHT times, (roughly $25 I'd have to spend) before I got one of those practically all "one-timers," so if I charge $60 an hour for massage, and it'd cost me $25 to finally get a client after eight trys, and they only come one time, I actually made only $35 on the deal when all is said and done!!! (I have 36 4.6 star reviews and plenty more than that on my own website so I'm a seasoned therapist who knows both Swedish and Medical Massage therapy.) I think that "little" problem is what gave birth to "Instant Match," but Instant Match has its own set of problems like how many massage therapists get the same request for massage. You say 15? I was told "10 or more" the last time I talked to someone at Thumbtack. That's absolutely insane and unaccaptable to me to compete with that many pros. In other words, too many of us are competing for the same job and if that isn't bad enough, all a potential client has to do is say "hello" and we are charged anywhere from $7 to $10+ for it!!! That's crazy and by crazy, I mean BAD crazy! So I'm pretty much done with Thumbtack until they change back to the old way of doing business. They were really never that good to begin with because I'd tell them I only want requests in my neck of the woods because people don't like to be on the freeways in southern CA and they'd send me a million requests from outside my neck of the woods anyway, saying it's not about what I want, but what the potential client wants as far as how many miles they are wiling to travel when I found out the hard way they almost always hire someone as close to their home as possible. Add to that the fact that they don't know how to get sales leads from people who can afford to become regulars and there you have it, Where are you located, Annerose?

As you all know, Thumbtack is severely automated and control the Pros. For example, I am a Massage Practitioner, and when I receive a request for a quote, Thumbtack removes the date and telephone number from the Client, so the Client has to respond with the date requested, and e-mail address or telephone number.
I am new and spent so far three weeks, just setting up my profile, in addition they have not been clear how they make their money until I finally figured it out myself.
Thumbtack sends the Client the profiles of 15 Massage Practitioners, and each person wants to know the date the Clienty wants the massage, this gives Thumbtack $105.00 a pop. Two people did not hire me just wanted to let me know they went with someone else. Thumbtack deducted the money from my credit card. I can see if I would be hired, but not when the Client is nice and just leaves a message.
Thumbtack must have a line for DATE SERVICE REQUIRED and this goes for all services like dog walking, dog sitting, house sitting, cleaning services, painting jobs, teaching jobs, etc.

Hello, I am still waiting for a response from you how to correct a heading for a profile because the Edit Button does not seem to work, and I have sent you several messages because I would like to receive some messages for quotes from you to customers. You have my Credit Card number and I only will accept messages on my computer not on my telephone. Please DO NOT provide my telephone number or use it for messages. Because my telephone even though it is a Samsung, and service with T-mobile, the sound is very poor. I will only communicate with Clients per e-mail. The question is, how will you charge me if I don't respond to Clients by telephone? What system is in place you do not use or abuse my credit card, like one Pro wrote you deducted $30.00 and he never got any jobs. Please explained as soon as possible. Respectfully, Annerose Kmoch Adelinde123@gmail.com I

Now, if Thumbtack deducts $30.00 from my Account without getting the job, and it happens several times, I will cancel my professional service and go elsewhere. I don't have money to give "gifts" to Thumbtack. I am here to earn a living after my spouse past away last year. Also, it is uneshical to set up a system stealing basically money from Pros and they allready spent time and effort getting connected with a client. Respectfully, Annerose Kmoch Adelunde123@gmail.com

OK, I am glad you ask. For example you have a limited section under Massage, there is for example "Watsu" which is an important treatment for many people, and the treatment is in warm water with a bathing suite on. Check it out on the WEB. You do not correct errors or sentence structure for bilingual people. I am a German national, but still lack to be perfect in writing Summaries or essays. Your company makes enough money providing this service for the money you are receiving. You sent prewritten/preprinted letters instead of responding to what the Pro really needs to know. You are sending me a whole page and then tell me to customer support. I was there with no help from you! Tell me where and how to delete Derma Care and put in the name of my new company name, and also remove Annerose Kmoch because it also needs to be deleted but the delete button ignores my request. At least you have figured out how to send you a message. Respectfully, Annerose Kmoch

Hello Carson, I would appreciate your help. I am very new to Thumbtack and your Employer resists to making changes. Without this changes, you will have many problems and you already now the company is not functioning very well. I have sent message after message that I cannot change or remove the title of my company and the edit button does not correct or does not work. Whoever is your tech support still don't "understand" your business and set it up like it is a tech support. There are many nuances which no one is getting. Why can't I change the name of my business? I would like to change it to "Anne's Therapeutic Massage, Skin Care, and Health and Wellness Coach" I have no idea where the location is to type in my profile for Therapeutic Massage and House/Pet Sitting Services. I am new and your Business is too automated and the people who are setting up this System do not understand the difference between different jobs. It's rediculous for Pros to accept your setup. I have spent a whole day figuring out what to do to set up my profile. You also do not make any corrections because it's too automated and you do not seem to check your Tech Master's work set up. Adelunde123@gmail.com I decided to send you a message because you are so automated that my many explanation how you can improve your system came back. Why is there not an e-mail address to send you information and information I need to do a good jobe. Question 1: I would like to do housesitting, vacation sitting (long term) watering plants, etc. Do I have to write a different profile for different jobs or is a resume bundled together? Why have you not responded to my request? You obviously do not read the requests for comments. Question 2: I am a licensed massage practitioner, and I explained to you that you cannot decide on how much to charge me because many times the clients changes his mind what type he wants and for how long. I want know know what the percentace is you are charging. 2.5 % for a regular massage in my place? You should not charge for my time and expense when I am driving and setting up for massage in the client's place, and only for the massage. These are two different things and making money of my charges driving and time, for my efforts is not ethical. The e-mails I wrote for your to understand charges and my costs were returned. How can I send them to you. You do not put enough effort or no effort at all in assisting issues which need to be corrected. Why not? I was a Unix engineer for almost 2 decades, so there is no way they can tell me a fix for this is a big deal. It could be fixed for an individual in 30 seconds or they could put a page together so the customer service people could make a database change- whatever- they just don't care. The fact that they won't lift a finger to fix a problem they created, potentially impacting many quality businesses, is completely outragious. I don't know exactly how much Top Pro status matters in the end, but that isn't the point. I see more competition for them on the horizon, like Bark, and I don't think it's a good idea to continue angering their pros by not owning up to their misakes. I get that things happen and bugs creep in and I expect that. I also expect them to make things made right in the end, and that's not happening. If you continue not to respond, I see no alternative but to go elsewere. Best regards, Annerose Kmoch Adelunde123@gmail.com 619 874-8523
