Share a photo that captures a special Mother’s Day moment for you. This could be a photo of you as a mom, a moment with your children, or a picture of someone who has played an important motherly role in your life.

Along with your photo, include a short story about that moment. It can be heartfelt, funny, challenging, or simply a memory that means a lot to you. Let us know why the photo is meaningful.

One selected community member will receive two Thumbtack swag packages, one for themselves and one for the special mom behind their story.

2. Jumpstart Your Profile with 3–5 High-Quality Photos
Start with at least 3–5 photos, but add more whenever possible and continue uploading new photos as you complete jobs. Show variety and results. Before-and-after shots work especially well. Use bright, clear images that capture the full scope of your work.

3. One Short Intro or Walkthrough Video (Around 30 Seconds)
Keep it simple and natural. In your video, you can:

• Introduce yourself and your business
• Mention the main problem you help clients solve
• Share what makes your service different
• Show a quick clip of a finished project
• Invite customers to reach out through your Thumbtack profile

That’s a great question. Let’s break it down in simple terms.

First, understand what you control.

Thumbtack uses exact lead prices. That means the price you set for a lead is exactly what you’ll pay, unless a discount or promotion applies.

You control your spending on Thumbtack by setting both your max lead prices and your weekly budget. Your lead prices tell us which jobs are most important to you. Your weekly budget controls your total spending. Both matter.

Start with your priorities.

Ask yourself:

• Which services are most profitable?
• Which jobs close most often?
• Which projects support my long term goals?

Setting a higher lead price for a service tells Thumbtack what jobs you want more ofFor example, if you are an interior designer who also offers home staging, and interior design projects are more profitable, you can set a higher lead price for that service. This helps you compete more strongly for those leads.

Your budget is your GPS.

Pro @pedroj says,

“Budgeting lays out your financial path, giving you clarity on income, expenses, and how to reach your goals. It's your GPS for financial success.”

In other words, your budget helps you prioritize where to invest your resources, making sure every part of your business gets the attention it deserves.

Take a look at your spending patterns and ask yourself:

• Are they aligned with your business goals?
• Are you meeting enough customers?
• Are your jobs bringing in the value you expect?

If you answer “no” to anything, it may be time to adjust your lead prices, your weekly budget, or your targeting preferences.

Think of return, not just cost.

It’s easy to focus only on how much a lead costs, but the bigger question is: what is the return? If one $25 lead turns into a $1,000 job, that is strong value. If a service rarely converts for you, you may need to adjust pricing or preferences targeting.

Budgeting is not just about numbers. It’s about setting yourself up for growth, resilience, and long term success.

When customers are deciding who to hire, they’re not just looking at services and prices. They want to know what it’s like to work with you specifically.

These tips came straight from experienced pros during a recent Pro Advisory Board panel discussion.

1. They actually ask.

It sounds obvious, but it matters. If you don’t ask, reviews usually don’t happen. A simple request for review is enough — no long explanation needed.

2. They ask before they leave.

The best time is right near the end of the job, when the experience is fresh in their mind and you’re face to face. After you leave life gets busy and reviews are easier to forget.

Not sure how to phrase it? Try something like this:

“I’m wrapping up in the next half hour. If you’re happy with the work, would you mind leaving a quick review?”

3. They explain why reviews help.

Gently remind customers that reviews are how they found you in the first place.
You can say something like, “You probably looked at my reviews before you hired me, and they really help other customers find me too.”

Most people are happy to help once they understand the impact.

4. Don’t panic over less-than-perfect feedback.

Every pro eventually gets a review that isn’t glowing. Our pro panel agreed this is part of the process. One Top Pro said, “Our first bad review was a learning curve. We turned it into a good experience and learned how to better serve our customers.” 

Top Pros also recommend responding to negative reviews to show potential customers how you handle challenges and how it might be to work with you.

5. Use the tools that make it easier.

Top pros also utilize platform features that help you collect reviews. Marking jobs as complete and using built-in prompts helps you automate the review request, so nothing slips through the cracks.

One pro panelist said, “Thumbtack sets you up for success. Pay attention to the tools available for collecting reviews.”

If you’ve been watching your Pro Rewards points creep up and wonder how some pros hit Silver in their first week, the difference usually isn’t out-hustling others or secret tricks. It’s focus.

Pros who reach Silver early tend to concentrate on a few fundamental strategies and stick with them — especially in their first stretch.

A quick look at Pro Rewards and tiers

The Pro Rewards program is designed to recognize pros who consistently deliver a positive customer experience. As you earn points, you move through tiers like Silver, Gold, and Platinum, unlocking added benefits that support growth and visibility along the way.

To qualify, pros need to earn points and meet quality requirements. In simple terms, quality requirements are about showing customers they can trust you.

Quality habits top pros prioritize early.

Pros who hit Silver status faster focus on meeting quality requirements early, not later.

They complete a background check.
It helps build trust with customers and supports eligibility for rewards.

They add photos to their profile.
Even one photo makes a difference. Pros who upload photos early give customers a clearer picture of their work and what to expect.

They respond quickly and consistently.
A fast response time is one of the most common habits shared among high-performing pros. Replying within an hour helps keep conversations moving and shows reliability.

While the Silver tier has no response rate requirement, response habits still matter long term. 

For reference:

• Gold requires replying within 1 hour 65% of the time
  
  
• Platinum requires replying within 1 hour 75% of the time

Response rates are measured over a rolling three-month period. You can check your progress  on your Rewards page.

They maintain strong reviews.
Star ratings are calculated using verified customer reviews over a rolling 12 month period. Pros who reach Silver early usually focus on delivering solid experiences and asking for feedback consistently.

The rating thresholds are:

• 4.5 for Silver
  
  
• 4.6 for Gold
  
  
• 4.7 for Platinum

What to focus on in your first week.

Instead of trying to optimize everything at once,  pros who achieved Silver status early often focused on:

• Keeping their profile complete and current
  
  
• Closing the loop on completed jobs
  
  
• Using built-in tools to mark jobs “done” and request reviews

These small actions can add up faster than expected.

Why Silver is a big first milestone.

Reaching Silver unlocks rewards that support learning and growth, like access to Success Workshops and eligibility for swag milestones. It’s also a quiet signal that  you’re on the right track.

You’ll want to keep going. The Gold and Platinum tiers open up even more opportunities, including priority support, marketing courses, and for Platinum pros, featured expert opportunities and the Top Pro badge. Moving up the tiers is confirmation that your habits and approach are working.

For many pros, achieving Silver status is when things start to feel real.
