Independent Music Teachers: Where Do YOU Get YOUR leads?

I have been using Thumbtack since 2018. I currently have 26 active music lessons students from the following sources:
• Thumbtack (5)
• Lessons.com (7)
• A Nonprofit After School Program (6)
• A Friend (1)
• A Music “Academy” (5)
• A Musical Retailer (1)
• Yelp (with no ads!) (1)
I know that @DustiO has said that it is smart to source your leads from a variety of places.
My question to you is where do you get your leads for music students? Comment down below in the discussion after answering my poll!

Yes, that would work great as well!

I tend to get my leads from Thumbtack, but there are a lot of wasted leads and therefore a lot of wasted money (because the cost of these thumbtack leads is high!). I would love to hear from other music teachers… what works for you? Is it worth trying something else?

Thumbtack
Lessons.com
Lesson rating(1 student)
Newspaper ads
Flyers
Facebook Ads
Craigslist
Nextdoor(one student)
Referrals(word of mouth)

OK so I just signed up for this other platform called Bark which kind of does the same thing as Thumbtack and Lessons.com . But they want $100 upfront! Anyone else have experience on this one?
Also I would like to leave three articles that I believe are relevant to our finding students:
- How Music Teacher Directories Hurt Private Music Teachers
- How Multilevel Music Stores and “Schools” Hurt Private Music Teachers
- It’s None of Your Business
I am quite passionate about this issue especially since I have gone into credit card debt trying to find leads! I didn’t realize that I didn’t necessarily have to bid the highest. I recently set my Thumbtack to limit the cost per lead, and I am still getting leads!

Does anyone know of Upwork? I’ve used it before, but with little success. I really need new students and other customers, but they take some of your income and you have to use their platform to get paid. Here is a screenshot:
I don’t really like the idea of “bidding” on jobs. Like many of you, I prefer to be the “only one picked.” But gotta compete, right?
