Hi and welcome, @Elissa! Congrats on your first lead (but sorry that they have not responded)!

It looks like you have done a great job so far — responded quickly to the customer, followed up via text and in app. Pros often have great suggestions for what to do when customers don't respond. We discussed this in one of our CommuniTEA Networking & mentorship sessions and pros had the following advice:

    • Refresh your profile intro once a month using chatgpt, to mix it up and test what resonates more with customers (from @1_gold_hands, a handyman who has grown to 7 locations using Thumbtack)
    • Reach out via the Thumbtack messenger, and then text and call - different pros suggested different timing that works for them like text immediately, call after 1 hr or 2 hrs, etc (several pros suggested this one)
    • Leave the message on a positive note and follow up with "nurture campaigns" - reaching out to customers every 30 days/60 days/etc with a refresher message (both @ShaquealThomas and @SOUNIQUE007 use this tactic and have multiple customers hire them at later dates)
    • Try a contest/sweepstakes - tell them even if they have used another pro and don’t need your services they can gift it to someone else! But put a deadline on it to add some urgency
    • Leave on a positive note, leave all of your contact info if they come back later (from @ShaquealThomas)
    • Message people during off time like evenings and weekends, when they will have time to respond to the message right when they see the notification, vs if they are at work) (from @AR2i, who has had a lot of success using this tactic)
    • Send them a note with all of the services you offer, in case they have already figured out that job, they can return later to hire you for other things (also from @1_gold_hands)

All of this being said, sometimes customers are slow to respond or decide they are not ready to hire. @busyb a Top Pro Home Organizer and a member of our Pro Advisory Board has a lot of experience with customers being hesitant in this category specifically and maybe she has some more advice to offer.

Also, join us in one of our live (over Zoom) sessions to chat with other pros in real time, we'd love to see you there!

Thanks for tagging me @DustiO and @Elissa I would be happy to connect with you offline to give you as much advice as I can to help you get better conversion with clients. I will say that depending on your category you may have more competition and therefore have to fight harder to get the attention on you but I work the leads pretty hard with some degree of automation in my CRM which does help with following up. But most of my clients are really struggling with chronic disorganization and I have to be very careful how much I "nudge" them along. They are overwhelmed and afraid of what they know they need to do but are often paralyzed by the thought of the process let alone having a complete stranger in their home. Please feel free to reach out if you want to schedule a time to connect via phone or Zoom. The best way to initiate a conversation is to text me your email address at 720.637.2492. I am not generally available though between 8 am - 3 pm MT so it may take awhile to coordinate a mutually convenient date/time especially if you are in a different time zone. ✌️

  • My experience since I've been tracking "no-answers" over the last month has been a 40% of "leads" do not answer the phone when you call him. Out of the $5,325 I've spent on Thumbtack, $3,681 have been spent on failed "lead" generation. That's a 69% loss rate.

The only thing you can do is make sure the 30% of Thumbtack users who intend to buy, buy from you.

The moment a Thumbtack inquiry comes in, I send a generic "Thanks for picking us! We'll call you shortly." Reply. This is only to pump up my response time. I do not care if the User reads or replies. It's only to improve my Thumbtack score. Also, I sleep for about six hours a day, so I "Hide my business" at quitting time to the next day. Thumbtack will automatically turn it on at 8:00 local time. My data shows I've missed two "sales" because of this, but I know I've avoided a thousand tire kickers who put a request in drunk and won't remember in the morning.

I digress. When you've sent that message. Immediately call the User and strong arm him into an appointment. Hopefully, if some other Pro calls him, the User will tell the pro "I'm good, thanks."

I keep Thumbtack turned off 90% of the time.

Wishing you the best of luck.
