Meet @busyb Beth, a Top Pro home organization and move management professional, a pro mentor, and a Pro Advisor from our Thumbtack Pro Advisory Board. Beth has years of experience in her industry and is in her 5th year as a Top Pro. We asked her about her Thumbtack experience and to share some advice for other pros. Check out what she had to say and comment below with your story or any advice you'd like to share with other Thumbtack pros.

Can you tell us a bit about your business and what inspired you to start it? I am the Chief of Chaos to Calm at It's Just Stuff, a home organizing and move management service based in the Boulder/Denver area. I say all the time that my inspiration came from feeling the need from a young age to have order to everything and it more or less morphed into a side hustle over the years that I had "real jobs" — until the pandemic hit and the demand skyrocketed as people started to realize how much stuff they had in their homes once they actually lived in them 24/7 during the lockdown. There also seemed to be an increase in the number of people moving and needing help with packing and unpacking plus so many seniors without family and friends to help them navigate the downsizing process whether aging in place or transitioning to senior living. 

What are some of the biggest challenges you've faced as a business owner, and how did you overcome them? The biggest challenge has always been clients who get "cold feet" and decide they cannot go through the decluttering process. This is a very emotional commitment for the vast majority of our clients who really struggle with chronic disorganization, so getting them to remain focused on the light at the end of the tunnel is always the key to success. But it requires some baby steps for those that get easily overwhelmed and zero judgment. Trust is everything in our business and that is something I think I instill in clients through constant communication and showing compassion and empathy for their situation. Past traumas tend to be the reason most clients get stuck and it is our job to keep them moving forward in an intentional and deliberate way.

How has Thumbtack contributed to your business's success? Thumbtack truly changed the trajectory of my business by working the platform hard from the beginning. Had I not become a top pro as well as a member of the pro advisory board I don't think I would still be in business. While a fair number of clients are referred or find us through a simple online search, without the power of the Thumbtack marketing machine creating organic SEO for every pro it would be so much harder to gain new leads, not to mention a lot more expensive.

What advice would you give to new business owners starting out on Thumbtack? Work every lead as quickly as possible but in an authentic and genuine way. Don't be too "salesy" and make sure you have a really solid profile with verified reviews to continue to stay on top of the heap so to speak.
