Hi Thumbtack Community,

I’m a freelance web developer using Thumbtack to book local clients (~10 inquiries/week). My profile gets views, but conversions are low.

Setup: Completed profile, 5 reviews, targeting local web design services.
Steps Tried:

  • Added portfolio images and detailed service descriptions.
  • Responded quickly to inquiries; still low bookings.
  • Used targeted zip codes, but competition is high.

Questions:

  • What’s the best way to optimize a Thumbtack profile for local bookings?
  • Any tips for standing out in a competitive market?
  • How do you craft responses to boost client conversions?

Thanks for your insights!

    Sorry I didn't see this yesterday, @davidjames8392

    @ShaquealThomas @busyb @Juliano_50 @amccarthy @Bretdouglas @CodyRisner @AntilleanRestoration @Jack_Marquardt @junkminers11 @soonerkimmy Do you have any advice for this pro who is new to Thumbtack?

    I would always recommend getting more than those 5 reviews, adding photos/samples of your work, responding as quickly as possible. I can offer more suggestions, but I am not able to find your Thumbtack pro account. Can you DM me the email address you use for your Thumbtack log in? Looks like you may have created a new log in when you logged in to the Community.

    I completely agree with everything Dusti said—you need to have a solid profile. I’d also suggest adding a photo of yourself; people connect with people, and personal photos can make a potential customer feel closer to you. Depending on your industry—like painting or carpentry—it might be easier to showcase your work visually. But even if it’s not, get creative. Use photos of your workspace, tools, or even books that reflect who you are and what you do. I remember my very first job on Thumbtack years ago—it was a small one, and I bid lower than my usual rate just to build momentum on my profile. I knew that once I completed that first job and I had an organic review things would snowball.

    @davidjames8392 sorry for the delay in responding but I have been insanely busy and don't always get a chance to check for notifications from this forum. It does seem, though, that you have already been given some solid advice by @DustiO and @Juliano_50 but if you would like to schedule a time to do a Zoom call and maybe we can look at your profile together please feel free to send me a text at 720-637-2492 to coordinate a mutually convenient date/time.

    Thanks for your response and suggestions! The issue is resolved—I updated my Thumbtack profile with more reviews and clearer service descriptions, which boosted conversions. I’ve also sorted the login issue via DM. Appreciate your help and the community’s support!

    Best,
    David James
