Thumbtack vs. NextDoor Alerts

Has anyone tried the NextDoor Alerts?
As I understand, they just send a notification to allow me to reach out to the OP for what seems like a very reasonable monthly rate instead of me doom scrolling ND to find potential customers.
Then it's my responsibility to engage the customer from there.

Has anyone else tried it? How does it compare to Thumbtack? $5 a day sounds like a dream considering that I've paid $98 for a Thumbtack Inquiry that was unresponsive.

Thanks!

  • It's been a week since I posted.
I don't have a list of how many ND clients I've contacted. I do however have three new customers in a week.
That's a cost per appointment ($149/30*7/3) of $11.59 compared to the Thumbtack cost per appointment at $54.73 ($5,418.62/99 paying customers out of 281 inquiries since 2023).
I am definitely going to continue using Next Door Opportunities for the foreseeable future if this track record continues.
    Thumbtack can fix this.
#1: limit Users to one pro contact, if the pro is unresponsive in 48 hours, allow a second for jobs under $5,000. For jobs over $5,000, initial request to two pros.

#2: approve all refund requests. Out of the 83 refund requests I've submitted, had these been approved it would lower my cost per appointment to almost the same level as ND opportunities.

    Update number two:

So it costs $149/mo. Today, we completed our first NextDoor Opportunities customer.

Three tasks: hang ceiling fans, replace commodes, install curtain rods.
The WORST task of the three made $195 in net profit after all expenses, mileage, materials, etc.

That means if I only accepted ONE task, I'd still be $45 ahead for the MONTH! OMG, you gotta try this. Nine days to being profitable as a lead generation source.
For my business, it took something like 291 days to be profitable.

And this customer asked us to complete another task in November that will probably make $200 net profit! I can't ask for more from a Lead Generation Service. Send me jobs I might take, I can respond to customers if I think it has potential. Customers respond to me. It's a fixed price per month and because it requires minimal effort and a fixed cost, when I don't get a reply, I won't lose any sleep since this has already paid for 1.33 months in a single job!
