Stop Charging Pros Unnecessary money

I’m very disappointed with Thumbtack. It’s frustrating and unfair that I was charged for a direct lead, only to find out the customer provided a fake phone number. I responded immediately and did everything right on my end, but there’s no real accountability for the quality of the leads.

It feels like Thumbtack cares more about collecting fees than ensuring their pros get genuine, verified opportunities. This experience was a waste of time and money — completely unacceptable.

Thumbtack needs to do better.

The same thing has happened to me and you report it so they can refund the money and nothing happens, what I really want to think is that they are not people who make the orders but bots as if it were an automatic system that sends you the order, it responds and nothing and I wrote to 4 pro but they never saw the message and the charge remains like that.

@kaiser to you report the leads that you suspected were spam? Also, did you submit refund requests?

My latest frustration with Thumbtack leads is… I had a lead who ONLY picked me and was anxious to talk to me. Unfortunately, he said that I can ONLY reach out to him by email. Thumbtack does not give me his email address, so I could not reach out to him. I tried his phone number and messaging him through Thumbtack. I contacted Thumbtack support, but of course, they said it doesn’t fit the criteria for refunds. I think that this is ABSOLUTELY ridiculous. I have been a Top Pro since 2021, but I continue to have similar types of experiences with Thumbtack. It’s as though they really don’t care about the Pro’s and it isn’t a partnership.

  • Hey @PTCoach

Ive actively stopped using thumbtack for all of this year. Id try bark (way better customer care) and dive into meta ads. On Bark you can choose to take the lead u get or deny it ( unlike thumbtack where its just forced on you). Thumbtack definitely does not care for it's users in any sense. The customer care is horrible. Their refund criteria never fits your reasoning. That said bark has a long way to go, but atleast treats their users better.

This is a common gripe I've had with Thumbtack since the beginning of working with them. I have paid over $8k in referrals and I just went through my data, and I get about a 10% response rate from clients. Of the 10%, I get about 2% of the hires.

I have applied for refunds, but ive found their default is a "no", then if you push back, it goes higher up in the chain, and usually they get eyeballs on the case. The amount of work we as Pro's have to do, to prove our case is such an insult and a waste of time.

I absolutely agree. I don’t feel as though Thumbtack sees us as Teammates in this process. Thumbtack could not exist without the pros, but they don’t seem to view it that way. We are dispensable to them.
