  • It's really simple, Thumbtack isn't here to connect you to clients, they're hear to make money for Thumbtack.

    The best quick reply reads something like "Hi! Thanks for contacting Wilbur's Widgets. I'm going to call you momentarily." Send, then call. Don't wait for the User to read the message. Just call. Rush that User into a date for service and don't look back. You won't make any money using the messaging system because there are at least three other chumps trying to gain that User at the lowest price. So book him on your calendar and hope that if someone else follows through a little later, that User says "I've already got an appointment."

    At best, you make a couple bucks. At worst, you show up and find that there is no one to answer the door - this has happened to me twice, so I turned Thumbtack off and solved both my revenue problem and my time crunch.

    I only use the messaging side to appease the TT requirement for a quick response then I text and as of late, I just call right away without any coordination of time since the leads have been few and far between.
