Where to find specifics of a lead beyond generic answers

I've received 2 leads today (first day on the platform) but I can't seem to find the details of the project, beyond the generic "business consulting service". With the expense of the lead, I would like to have a bit more detail so I can modify my profile if the leads aren't hitting the mark. Any suggestions?

Hi @mhudson1076 , welcome to Thumbtack! I can definitely understand why that feels frustrating, especially when you’re paying for a lead and only seeing a broad category like “business consulting service.”

A lot of the time, this happens because customers move quickly through the required questions and don’t add much in the optional description fields, so the request comes through with only the general service name. When that happens, one of the best next steps is to reply quickly and ask a simple follow-up question about what they’re hoping to accomplish. A short, friendly message can often help you get the context you need.

It’s also a good idea to review your targeting preferences and service settings regularly so you’re matched with the kinds of jobs you want most. Thumbtack’s community guidance specifically recommends keeping those settings updated so your leads better reflect your current business needs.

We also host CommuniTEA mentorship sessions in the Community, which can be a helpful way to connect with other pros and get advice from people with more experience on the platform. (it's happening tomorrow, you can join here )

I really hope this helps... hang in there, and definitely let me know if I can help look into anything else for you!

@mhudson1076 +1 to Arvin's welcome! I would recommend reading through the New Pro Success Guide that you see when you log in to the app (screenshot below).

When you click into the messenger, you should see all of the lead details on the right hand side (on desktop, screenshot also below) or at the top when you click into the lead in your app. I logged in as you and am able to see it, so let us know if it isn't working on your device.

Hope this helps give a little more clarity! If you can, join our CommuniTEA sessions. We are often able to hop into your profile live to help with questions too!

Got it, but all that tells me is the industry, company size, and whether they have a business plan. That doesn't tell me what they actually want. That was my question.

To pay close to $175 for that little detail seems a bit high. As you can see, I have responded within minutes of each and have not received a response from any of them.

Ah I see! I am not sure what questions get asked in the customer request form for this category, so this may just be due to that, or could be what Arvin mentioned above. I would recommend trying to play around with your lead prices (try moving it to a lower price) and see how things go. Would also recommend sending the feedback to support@thumbtack.com so it can get logged under your account and your category. We will also submit this feedback to the Category Management team!
