Leads vs Opportunities
I got a direct lead today and saw with "additional insights" that the client picked NINE PROS. I thought one of Thumbtack's promised benefits was limited competition. Did that change?
I know it was nine because I was the first person they contacted. With Thumbtack now charging 10% more because of Thumbtack Numbers, can we now expect to pay more for added competition too? Has anyone else experienced this?
I see Pro A-H in my list, including me. I've never seen more than five.
This is wild.

Hey Sammy @SarzozaPhoto! I did some digging this morning and it looks like 5 of those were "opportunities" and not direct leads (so not quite as much competition as it looked like!). Chatting with the team right now about how we could better clarify that in product! I will let you know if I find anything else out!

Thanks for clarifying, Dusti. The one thing I'm unclear about is why the lead went to opportunities so quickly. Don't they have to wait until no direct leads reply for a few hours before it goes to opportunities? I replied within one minute, and I watched it go from "Only picked You" to Pros A-H in a matter of thirty minutes. Shouldn't paid direct leads get the chance to have a conversation with the lead before it goes to opportunities? That only seems fair if we're paying for the lead.

I asked the team for some clarity around opportunity timing, and I will share any additional info that I get. If it makes you feel any better, customer rarely look at the opportunity bids, especially when they have pros they've reached out directly to who are actively communicating with them…

even the direct leads they don’t open.
Especially the automatic reply’s from front desk.
Last three leads I have gotten all leads didn’t even have a voicemail set up … seems odd.
And since the thumbtack number change response back have dwindle down to almost none .
Let alone landing a job to justify paying for leads with thumbtack anymore .
Use to land them to cover cost now only one making money is thumbtack.
Use to enjoy spending on app and telling customers to look for vendors in the thumbtack app.
Which would generate money for thumbtack now I don’t. This removal of customer and numbers has changed my budget on spend on leads with thumbtack. Paused all my services but one to see if that would help justify and all I am doing is throwing money away now.
Frustrated because of this change.
Where are all the positive comments about this change still haven’t seen one !
