Atlanta pros, how far will you travel for a smaller job?

A bookshelf might take an hour to assemble. But if you’re driving an hour each way, what do you charge to make that trip worthwhile?

That’s one of the questions @Steven_kitsetUSA brought to Monday's Atlanta Pro Mentorship session. He’s based about 45 minutes outside the city, and many of his assembly jobs mean an hour on the road each way. He’s tried narrowing his service area, but most of the requests are coming from farther out.

@AR2i talked through a few ideas with him, including pricing, scheduling jobs near each other, and checking in with past customers. We wanted to continue that conversation here and hear from other pros who deal with this, too.

@Steven_KitSetUSA , I mentioned your question to @PhilZDPDX during today's mentorship session, and he was happy to connect with you here!

@PhilZDPDX , what would you consider before taking on a smaller job with that much driving involved?

Tagging @ShaquealThomas too! How do you account for travel when putting together a quote?

Other handymen and assembly pros, how do you handle this? Do you have a minimum charge, limit how far you’ll travel for certain jobs, or take another approach? Share an example if you can.

@Steven_KitSetUSA , feel free to add anything I missed or let us know what you’ve tried since Monday.

@everyone, if you haven’t joined an Atlanta Pro Mentorship session yet, this is the kind of conversation you can bring your own questions to. Meet other pros, hear how they approach things, and keep the conversation going here.

Hey @Steven_kitsetUSA! I’m bummed I wasn’t on the session you were on. I’d be happy to talk through your struggle with the travel and making the platform work for your situation. We have had somewhat similar things to figure out as well and I may have some suggestions for you. Feel free to reach out any time! I’ll be on some more of the Atlanta mentorship sessions in the near future as well!
