Are Thumbtack's "Free Leads" Actually Real?
I've been using Thumbtack for my photography business and I've started questioning whether some of these so-called "free leads" are even legitimate.
I've noticed a pattern where free leads come through, but the customers never respond, even when I reply promptly with a professional message and reasonable pricing. There's no follow-up, no questions, and no indication that they're genuinely interested in hiring someone.
I understand that not every lead turns into a booking. That's part of running a business. But when the same thing happens repeatedly, it starts raising questions.
It makes me wonder whether these are genuine customers or simply leads designed to keep professionals engaged on the platform.
I'm not claiming to have proof that these leads are fake, but the pattern has made me increasingly skeptical.
