Uptick in "discounted lead" emails

Anyone else seeing an uptick in Thumbtack offering 15% off leads for someone to respond to leads? I'm getting them more frequently than ever before.

Here's my confusion with this — if we now have to pay 10% more for leads for all the new bells and whistles of quality leads, then how come Thumbtack is discounting leads? Plus, why offer discounts on leads if they're only opportunity leads which Thumbtack knows the clients never, ever see or bother even looking at?

At best, can I turn off notifications and emails for 'discounted lead' offers? They are really annoying and honestly a bit frustrating to see.

I never see this and wish I did, which industry are you in?

I'm in photography. The frustrating thing is that TT hasn't really done anything to address the fact that people don't even see Opportunity Leads in their inbox. So it's really just a pointless offer to offer a 15% off lead.

Plus, discounted leads are for people who haven't received a single reply from a Pro. So constant discounted leads should signal to TT that there is a pretty big problem with the lead quality. Mostly, it seems to be that the lead didn't get a reply because the job value is too low.

The thing I'll never understand is that while everyone knows that the price of everything is going up year over year, since I joined TT three years ago, the price ranges for my category still remain:

    Under $250

    $250 to $500

    $500 to $1,000

and up. They haven't changed the price ranges by even a dollar in 3 years. Photographers could pay up to $90 for a lead but only book a job for a max of $250. That's an extreme example, but that's why leads don't get replies, and TT has to discount them. Something needs addressing, and discounted leads are the indicator.

I am close to triple the average price of my competition. People select me when they are looking only for the best. Perhaps focus on differentiating yourself instead of trying to run with the pack. Add value and build trust to make each job more profitable.

$100 from 10 customer is the same as $1,000 from 1.

That's good food for thought. Sometimes it's easy to get caught up in the thrill of competition rather than running my own race. Thanks, for the reminder @Jonathan_Stickland!

Just trying to help my friend.

Look, Thumbtack is a tool, and hopefully a good faith partner we can trust. My complaint isn't in lead quality, but quantity. Sadly it currently does not fulfill my quality lead needs as a company, so I have to use many of their competitors. But in fairness, Thumbtack greatly the exceeds the rest regarding my ability to control, and differentiate from other companies better than most. They are competing, so we will see who adapts more over time to get my money.

I am investing my time and energy into trying to help Thumbtack succeed, because I need them to do more. We will see if the juice is worth the squeeze with time I supposed. Maybe I am the fool.

What I say is that when it works, it works. It's just when they raise lead prices by another 10%, I just want it to work as well as it can.

Raise your prices by the same. Consider it like a tariff, lol!

I agree, we all want Thumbtack to be better. We are counting on them!
