New Thumbtack Number System Negativity Effecting Business

I was actually Thumbtacks first personal training professional. Ever since Thumbtack moved to it's new phone number system I have not received any leads. Thumbtack failed to take into account that people do not answer masked numbers. I would like Thumbtack to change it back to how it was.

Hi @Onyedikachi_Ibeji , thanks for sharing this, and wow, being Thumbtack's first personal training pro means you've seen a lot of changes over the years!

I hear your concern about the timing of the drop in leads and the experience you've had since Thumbtack Numbers was introduced. While I can't confirm from here that the number change is what's causing the decrease in your lead volume, your feedback about how customers respond to Thumbtack-provided numbers is important context.

We have a Community post that answers some of the most common questions about Thumbtack Numbers and explains more about how the feature works:

Please continue sharing your feedback here as well. Feedback from Community conversations like this is regularly surfaced to the appropriate teams, and I'll include the experience you've shared here.

I can understand why this would be frustrating. Many customers do not answer numbers they do not recognize, especially if the number looks unfamiliar or different from the business number they expected.

For cleaning leads, I think it helps to use more than one communication method. I would send a Thumbtack message first, keep it short and clear, and then follow up by call or text if appropriate.

The first message should make the next step easy: confirm the service, ask a few simple questions, and let the customer know you are ready to help.

Calls can still be useful, but I would not rely only on phone contact. Clear messaging can help keep the conversation moving even when customers do not answer the first call.
