This week on Thumbtack

Hello everybody. I know I'm normally the one being inspirational and leading everyone on the Thumbtack path. I finally also had the dreaded Thumbtack week. Literally getting denied refunds on leads that are miscategorized which makes no sense to me as Thumbtack is the one that made the mistake not me.

Then to make matters worse the price of tree leads is so high I paid $55 for a lead and the gentleman said thank you but he paid it passerby $40 and he just threw it on the curb.

Then we had another instant booking for tree trimming at $100 so literally in a matter of 3 minutes we spend almost our entire weekly budget.

But, but,

This is where the story will change for me. I will use this as a learning tool to feel sympathy with my fellow brothers and sisters using the app for all these years this is the first time I've been defeated like this with thumbtack. I'm out of money can't bid on any other jobs they've used my budget and I'm stuck. But I believe in the law of averages, I believe in the Lord Almighty and I will see my way through this darkness to the better weeks ahead. If life wasn't difficult if running a business wasn't hard we wouldn't be doing it. Everyone would. But we are professionals, we dig in, we make it through the difficult times and then in the good days we'll remember what that feeling of having nothing meant.

I'm still Brett Douglas a top pro every single year I've been on this app. I got here by working hard every single day and having multiple successful weeks. I finally hit that horrible week and now instead of just saying I feel sympathy I can actually feel it for my fellow contractors. I'm on a special board that helps vendors. We truly try to encourage everybody around us and pray for their success. Today I'm in the same category where I need some prayers and some inspiration to move forward yet I know that even a journey of a thousand Miles starts with a single step. I will get through this dreaded week and be a better person from it. Warm regards Brett ,a top pro from Orlando who finally felt the dreaded week

  • @Bretdouglas keep your head up!

  • Aww. Thank you sir. I finally sold a huge job this week so it ended on a better note

  • I have been a Top Pro for 8+ years. The useless leads and the refusals on credits (let's call them what they really are) is getting out of control. I have literally referenced services I don't do right in my "business name" so no one should be contacting for those services and yet they still do and the refunds continue to get denied (this is new thing in that past 3-4 months). I've always had a very thorough profile/intro that spells out exactly what services I do and do not provide (for years) and that has always been enough for getting requests for services I don't provide credited back towards valid services. And tire kickers and canceled accounts are on the rise. I am one the highest ranked Top Pro's in my region (DMV) for my category and it seems we Top Pro's don't matter to this company anymore. It appears that Thumbtack as a company has devolved to the point that they could care less about who really pays the bills for them and that is the Pro's on the platform (Top or not).
