Thumbtack Pro Minimum for Leads

I have been on Thumbtack for almost a month. They tell you the best ways to show up in searches is to have quick response rates (which I have worked on), 10 - 5 star reviews which I have 12, and spend more on leads, which isn't fair. If you do everything they suggest but can't afford to buy more leads because you would end up just breaking even, then you still don't show up in searches. I understand they need to make money too, and that there is a lot of competition out there but the math ain't mathin' in my bank account.

@JoleneC if you can make it, we would love to have you join our bi-weekly networking hour, CommuniTEA, where you can chat with other seasoned pros to get advice! It happens every other Thursday morning. (I linked our events tab where you'll find those CommuniTEA sessions as well as upcoming webinars and our Pro Summit - we also have several on demand webinars with a ton of helpful information).

I took a few moments to look at your account and it looks like in your first month you've had a lot of success, which is AMAZING! I saw a few things that may help:

    • Have you tried playing around with your max lead prices so you're spending a little less per lead, so your budget will go further?
    • Your response time could also be quicker - having been a Thumbtack pro for many years myself, I totally understand that it's hard to respond when you are on a job! Have you tried utilizing your "Quick replies"? You'll find those in your settings and you can deploy those to respond within the first few minutes. I can't remember the exact statistic right now, but you are far more likely to win the job if you respond within the first few minutes, and definitely within the first hour (since folks today are really used to everything being instant)
    • You already have a lot of incredible verified reviews, and I saw a couple of unverified reviews - but you can have up to 10 unverified reviews, so I'd recommend getting the rest of those if possible, to get your review total up even higher and make yourself stand out even more.

You may have already tried these things, if so you can just ignore me! If you're able to attend a CommuniTEA session other pros that join will likely have some great advice/tips for you too (way better than I would have!).

Also tagging in some of our Thumbtack Pro Advisors and some of our CommuniTEA regulars who might have some good advice for someone who is newer to Thumbtack! @ShaquealThomas @busyb @Bretdouglas @Jack_Marquardt @Juliano_50 @AR2i @soonerkimmy @SOUNIQUE007

  • @JoleneC We would love to see you on the next video call! I am a Calligraphy Artist in the OKC area. Many of us have definitely helped one another through the growing pains of learning the platform. Dusti is instrumental in sharing our thoughts with Thumbtack. Hope to see you there!

@JoleneC I thought I replied days ago but I guess not. Please feel free to reach out anytime if you need any advice re: Thumbtack leads. I can honestly say that Thumbtack really changed the trajectory of my business since 2020 and while I know it can be frustrating navigating the leads system, I have figured out ways to make it work to my company's advantage more than a disadvantage. Text me at 720.637.2492 to coordinate a time to chat if you are interested.
