Has anyone had success with opportunities?

There is a pretty low response rate with opportunities, generally speaking.. But, if you have a chance to join our CommuniTEA (bi-weekly networking) sessions, you could ask other pros live and see if they've had any luck and/or if they have any advice.

Of the 20-30 times I have reached out, I had one call back about it, and the guy ended up going in another direction.

I never use them, it seems like overpriced low-quality leads with a very small chance to be hired

A few things to keep in mind with Opportunities:

    • These are leads where customers have already reached out directly to another pro (or pros), but maybe haven't yet hired anyone or haven't heard back from any pros
    • They can also be jobs that are slightly outside your preferences, so be sure you thoroughly check it out before reaching out
    • You won't be charged for these unless the customer responds to you

So if a customer responds to say they won't be needing you, you will still be charged because they responded?

yep, you can always ask for a refund but TT will most likely say “we provided a connection, and for that we will bill you”

Has anyone tried putting in the message to the opportunities customers something like: Serious inquiries only! Thumbtack will charge me such and such dollars if you respond to this message.

@Barto hopefully some other pros will chime in here, but overall messages like this don't create the best experience for customers (imagine if clicking through a website from Google, a professional told you how much your click on Google cost them). I think you could definitely mention that you would like to speak with customers who only have serious inquiries and maybe direct them to check out your profile for questions before responding? Something like that? But, you can always test out different responses and see what works best for you!
