Why do Users act shocked at my prices? Are they doing the same to you?

I understood Thumbtack showed my price per hour to Users. Why is it that when I'm talking to someone and she asks my price per hour I hear "I picked someone who charges $50/hr."?

Is this happening to you?

Furthermore, there's something wrong in Thumbtack's metrics. This inquiry came through with "1 pro responded" and both other pros were slower than I was.

I can see on my end that all 3 pros responded within 5 minutes — can you clarify what your concern is with TT's metrics? Could be that when the message came through only 1 had responded, but that changed quickly?

As far as pricing, could you share which customer that was? They should be seeing your pricing up front, but would love to see if I can see anything weird.

  • Sure, I responded in 48 seconds and the system showed someone else had already responded. That other person replied in 55 seconds. I was 7 seconds faster, yet the system already had a reply recorded?

    And "Melanie Mclaughlin"

Here's the refund request I submitted:

Thumbtack is not showing prices, the first query from this customer was "how much do you charge?" And I responded with $93.50/hr. And she said "I'm 83 years old, I can't afford to spend $93.50/hr." She then proceeded to tell me she picked someone who charges $50, I said I'm probably faster than he is and she may pay less for better quality work.
None the less, this was a complete waste of both of our time.
Please ask your development team to correct whatever issue is causing so many Users to fail to see prices that I clearly have inserted into your system

Refund denied, as usual, the denial team blamed me:

"The lead matched the preferences you set. If those preferences no longer align with the jobs you're seeking, we recommend updating them."

How can I update my preferences to reflect customers who recognize my prices are higher than others (and lower than others too!) because my quality of work is better and my turn around time is less, which may actually result in a lower cost with higher quality work?

This has been happening a lot, it started around Halloween? I know I wrote down the dude's name who asked me my price, when I replied yelled at me, hung up on me so I never work for him again.

I just wanna hang drywall (which I can't on Thumbtack because the ROI is pretty much negative.) So I try to interact with new people as a "Handyman" or "Furniture Assembler", but that's not even working well any more.
