Instant Booking

Also, I just noticed that they rigged the dates on the posts in this thread to appear 2 weeks older in order to push this thread down to the second page. For shame, Thumbtack.

@DrewL03 it is not possible to rig the dates of a post. We've never had a post with this many comments and it is most likely a bug of some sort, I will reach out to Vanilla, our platform provider. Please review our Community Code of Conduct and keep conversations constructive. Thanks.

I think it's fixed now! If it still isn't fixed, feel free to start a new thread around Instant Book feedback and we can merge them once it is, but on my end I am now seeing the post with today's date (the date you see on the post should be the date of the most recent comment).

@DustiO I had two instant books with no hires on either of them (one was just asking for numbers, the other pushed the project to next year).
the issue is, Thumbtack is assuming I was hired based on the instant book, and is falsely reflecting I was hired by these two clients. I don’t mind that it increases my hired “X” amount of times, but it does seem weird that TT counts that. So is a “book” always going to be a hire?

Design and architectural services skyrocket from Nov and only starts slowing down around July. Yet, on TT I have none. I was told by a TT rep the reason I have 0 leads is because there isn’t much customer interest in design or architecture currently. This is not accurate in either field.
My insights don’t show the graph anymore, as seen on the bottom image, and instead says to work on my pro page. I’m a top pro so that’s not the reason.
Just letting the others know without leads, it’s also effecting me at our busiest time of the year. If anyone has recommendations for me please let me know. Thank you.

I’ve not got a lead in almost 4 weeks but have had 158 views. But thumbtack allows non licensed pros to advertise so I guess they are just undercutting me

It is fixed on my end I see on the front page as well.

@Modern_designer11 I will take a look and see if I can find anything that might help. In the meantime @Ashish_Architect do you have any advice for this pro?

@Modern_designer11 Ok, I took a few minutes to look into your profile — a couple things I can recommend. Try boosting your competitive level (even if just a little bit), and you could also try responding to your existing reviews and getting a few more new reviews, as well as decreasing your response time and adding a few new photos and/or featured projects. All of those things will help bump you up in ranking. However, you are already showing in the 5th spot, so you are still on the first page, which is great.
If you look at your "how you compare" page in your insights you'll be able to see the number of active pros vs the number of requests and there haven't been a ton of requests in your categories so that may also be a factor. Maybe due to the recent holiday? Hopefully it pick up soon.
I am seeing the graphs on my end when I log in, which is strange. I would maybe recommend submitting a bug report about that.

Hi @DustiO , I am stumped as to why @Modern_designer11 is not getting any design related leads, the market for that seems quite hot. What was it like last year? When did the traffic stop for you? The only thing I can think of is to make sure you have reviews showing up and of course, you reply quickly. I cannot go your profile page, so cannot see your page to make any suggestions.

Speaking of looking back at this time last year, I would love to hear what tools you all use to track your ROI for your businesses? I think this is something that is extremely important to do, but a lot of people don't actually track it. When I was a business owner I used a simple excel spreadsheet, but I know there are so many amazing tools out there.
If any of you do track your ROI and are willing to share what tools you use, that would be great. Tracking your ROI and sending that feedback in numbers to Thumbtack is always incredibly valuable as well. You can send it to support@thumbtack.com so that it gets logged specifically under your account (I am sharing this thread with teams, but this doesn't get logged under your account specifically). We're working on a feedback mechanism in the Community that will link to your TT accounts, hopefully early next year. In the meantime please keep sharing, I am committed to sharing your feedback and will update here a soon as I have updates to share. Thank you all for your continued contributions.
@Matt I will find out about the "hire" question.

@Modern_designer11 i think a lot of customers are confused with the instant booking. They are looking for quotes and not interested in putting in their addresses/forced into an instant book so they are choosing to not go to google or maybe other platforms to search? I have no idea if this is the case but it does make sense if so… it would certainly explain the huge drop off ?

As I mentioned, I have been working with a TT associate but I’m glad you’re available to help, thank you.
I always respond to existing reviews. I also have a budget of around $158 per week. You’re saying I need more than this? Because of my lack of leads, I can’t afford more. And why would I need more than $158 per week if I can’t get 1 lead in over 4 weeks? Are you saying I need more than $158 for 1 lead? This hasn’t been the case in the 3+ years I’ve used TT.
In response to the reviews, I have far more than 12 reviews. I brought this up to your coworker, Anna:
My response time is better than most. I have all 5 star reviews and 1- 1 star review, please read the review and response for more details. I would love if you posted more than 12 reviews for me when I have more than 20. I haven’t heard back from Anna regarding this last email I sent. She could be out of the office.
Dusty, if you feel you can provide more specific advice I would appreciate it, and Anna would probably appreciate the support too. My employees have families to feed and medical insurance to pay for so it’s important to me to support them. Some with serious medical conditions, so this is something I cannot ignore. A $680 monthly budget on leads, with no guarantee of work, isn’t a small thing and we haven’t received anything in a very busy market. If you’re more comfortable reaching out to me personally I’m happy to discuss this further. I’m here to provide results to help my staff, not to argue disappointments, I assure you. Let’s figure this out together.
If you’re not receiving design or architectural inquiries have you considered it’s TT and not the industry? My industry is not the only one that is not receiving leads, and your business should check into this.
Thanks for listening,
Alicia

@Modern_designer11 Max Lead Price and budget are 2 separate things. If you click on your Max Lead Prices you'll be able to see. If you adjust it to slightly more competitive you may show up higher (but you can keep the same budget amount). As for the reviews, it was most likely due to those showing up as unverified leads (you can only have 10 unverified leads displayed). If they were customers that hired you via TT that support agent should be able to help you get those changed to verified (I am not able to help with that, but she will be).

Dusty, this is getting frustrating, writing you a thoughtful response and it getting deleted. Please look into this. I’ll have to give you the short/curt version.
Regarding your message, I always respond to a review. I’ve also been in contact with Anna at Thumbtack, and brought up the issue that only 12 reviews are being reflected instead of ALL my reviews. Especially when they’re associated with the same job:
I haven’t heard back from Anna, but we would both appreciate your help with this, I’m sure. My response time is better than most actually, I’m award winning, and vetted by Architectural Digest. I have over 200 images from our portfolio, I have multiple projects from start to completion highlighted, we are also licensed (which you won’t allow us to show) and I have a full built-out profile. I even have reviews from the contractors from our Thumbtack projects, which you won’t use as a verified reviews. In the last 3 years with TT we haven’t had ANY issue with inquiries. I have been a Top Pro and have received nothing but compliments from TT on our profile. For some reason, in the last 4 weeks, I’ve completely missed the mark? Out of literally nowhere? You said my missing graph (which will show zero leads) might be a bug and asked me to submit that. Okay, please consider that submitted to you. Please forward that accordingly, thank you.
The Design Industry is booming, so this is a recent issue with your platform only, and others are experiencing the same issue. Please consider this issue is not because we as ’Business Owners’ don’t know how to assess our analytics. We are clear what our previous, recent, and current TT analytics are, and where our industry stands in terms of job inquiries. If you can say otherwise, show us your analytics. This is what we invest in when we’re paying for jobs we do not get. We invest in the research of what you can do.
I set my monthly budget at $680 dollars A MONTH for leads that aren’t guaranteed, which means roughly $158 per week. You’re saying I need to increase this to receive 1 lead? So, what does 1 lead cost? And we have a 1/10th, if we’re lucky, chance of landing that lead.
I said this in my previous response, and it pains me to repeat these things… but my staff has families, bills, and medical bills, with serious medical problems, and they rely on our business to support them. I can’t fail them. Please take these concerns seriously, work with us. If you would prefer to contact me individually so we can figure this out it would be appreciated. Thank you for your attention to this matter, and I’ll be sure to let everyone know if we’ve come to a resolution.

Thank you for looking into this and it was certainly one of my concerns. I received an email from Anna (TT rep) that says I was showing up and mentioned my response time which is better than most. If you are able, please provide a screenshot so I can see that I’m not visible.
I’m not sure where to go from here:

@Modern_designer11 - what I meant was that I dont know how to find you in TT, so cannot comment on your profile. I dont believe TT has a search feature (cc @DustiO ) to lookup a specific pro. If you can share your profile link here, I can check it out. Thanks.

Understood. My guess is that either people are not using TT to find professionals in my industry anymore or I’m not visible. I don’t believe Anna is lying, but I do know that almost $700 a month budget for leads before was a good budget and now I cannot get 1 lead. Although, unfortunately it would be a Book Now which would only frustrate my inquiry more and I’d have serious damage control. My company is AD | Atelier + Design, area code 34236 in Sarasota FL, we do Interior Design and Interior Architecture. We are one of the fastest growing areas in the country with a luxury demographic, so the lack of leads is astounding. I truly feel for all my other TT pro’s and I hope there’s something I can do to help support you in some capacity. Happy Holiday’s to everyone.

I responded to you but don’t see my response. If you don’t as well please let me know and I’ll resubmit it. Thank you again.

hi @Modern_designer11 , I see your response at 4:58pm (see screenshot below of both responses from you). I am wondering if you have some sort of adblocker or javascript blocker in your browser or some other blocker that is messing up. I would say, try someone else's computer, try chrome browser as well. Your experience is certainly unique, and not corroborated by me.

I do appreciate that, I’m on my phone and usually respond from my desktop so I’ll take a look. Certainly don’t want to annoy everyone with repeat messages. Also, I read your posts and looks like we are explaining the same thing, that our industry does not work with the book now option, and listed our professions reasons. Even our licensing scope of ethics being against this. Hopefully you can make some traction.

Thanks, I am also confounded by this Instant-booking, since hiring a designer is "very different" process than hiring a trademan (no offense to any trade, just a different beast). The engagement with a designer is a mix of personality fit AND skills, and instant booking assumes people are willing to pay a designer for a site-visit, which is normally not the case.
In any case, @DustiO , I just had my 2nd Instant-book cancelled a day later, because someone else showed up to their house sooner. I dont understand how that workflow works, since in both cases, the homeowner instant-booked me, and then somehow found someone else?
I can understand the frustration with this feature. It is not fully thought out yet. I am sure you guys will figure it out, but hopefully soon :)

@Ashish_Architect all we want is an on/off switch for instant booking. Seems so short sighted to release a one size fits all for such a diverse set of professionals.
