Leads

The changes on Thumbtack has been great however when a potential client is inquiring services from multiple pros their individual terms and conditions are not viewed. For example my profile specifically says that I do not use pre purchased materials provided from clients because I can not guarantee the results. I get many inquiries from potential clients saying they purchased their own materials. This is a waste of a lead that I have to pay for because my profile individually is not being viewed but selected as an option for the requested job. This results in money lost by me (paying for the lead) and a hard conversation I then have to have with the potential client.

I think that a potential client should only be allowed to view and select pros individually and not in a list of pros together.

Hi @Letsbiz22 , thanks for sharing this, and I appreciate you explaining how this is affecting your business.

I hear the concern you're raising about customers having enough information to understand a Pro's specific requirements before reaching out. Your example about not accepting customer-purchased materials is particularly helpful because it shows how a customer may contact a Pro without realizing that their project doesn't align with how that business operates.

We've heard similar feedback from other Pros around customer pre-qualification and the experience of selecting multiple Pros, so I appreciate you adding another perspective. Your suggestion about allowing customers to review and select Pros individually is also helpful context.

I'll make sure your feedback is included as these themes continue to be surfaced to the appropriate Product teams.

I'd also encourage you to submit specific examples of leads that don't align with your service requirements through your account so the appropriate team can review them.

Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience and suggestions with the Community!

I think making service requirements more visible before a customer contacts a pro would help prevent a lot of misunderstandings.

For cleaning services, customers sometimes have different expectations about what is included, which supplies will be used, how the property should be prepared, or whether certain tasks require additional time or charges.

For example, standard cleaning and deep cleaning are different services. Some customers may also expect baseboards, interior windows, appliance interiors, laundry, or other detailed tasks to be included automatically.

It would be helpful if customers could review and acknowledge important service details before submitting their requests.

I also think there should be a simple way for pros to highlight requirements such as property access, special cleaning instructions, pet information, and any preparation needed before the appointment.

Clear expectations protect both sides. Customers know what to expect, and pros can prepare the right equipment, supplies, labor, and time for the job.

Better communication before the booking usually leads to fewer surprises and a smoother customer experience.
