  • @DustiO hi, I just read the post with the screenshot of "I can work with other project types not listed here" circled. Just want to be clear, that's not what's going on with the errant land surveyor work leads. Land surveying is not a structural engineering "project type." It's an entirely different profession. You need to be a licensed land surveyor to do land surveying work. Land surveying would be (and is) a separate Thumbtack service from structural engineering. Examples of an "other project type" in structural engineering would be a fire damage assessment, or a foundation condition assessment, or a commercial property condition assessment. Assuming a licensed structural engineer can do licensed land surveying work is like assuming a licensed plumber can go out and do licensed electrical work.

  • you have to have a license to do irrigation in Florida but thumbtack allows people without a a license to advertise for this service. And lately they been charging $60 or more a lead

@structuralguy65 I only pointed it out, because it looks like the customer selected "other" - not sure if it's the reason, but could be why you received that lead? They may not have been aware of exactly what they needed and when they didn't see the right options they selected "other"? I'm just guessing though - may be worth trying to remove that and seeing if it eliminates some of the mismatches? But totally up to you, of course :)

  • @dustio Regardless of what the customer selects, it is wrong for Thumbtack to charge Pros for leads that are not in their profession. And the Federal Trade Commission agrees with me. Angi Leads got shackled with a 10-year consent order and a large fine for that type of behavior, among other things. (The fine and and consent order both are posted on the FTC's website.)
