You’ve been one of the pros consistently offering to help others figure things out, and that’s exactly what makes this space great, "PROS HELPING PROS " . • Hey Bret,

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I've made several tweaks over the years but the lead quality has been horrible. If I'm doing something wrong and or if I can make the necessary changes to increase the overall efficiency, I'm extremely open and receptive to constructive criticism and guidance.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Warm regards,

    Claude

Hey Bret! I could really use your help. I have been getting leads and I respond quickly. I think my pricing is good. But I've only had one lead turn into a customer. All the other leads that I reached out to never responded. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, and this is costing me money to reach out to leads who never respond. I would love some suggestions. You can email me at kendal@dustbustercleaningpros.com. Thank you for your help!

That's amazing that you're trying to help so many people. As a fellow business owner, I too have been trying to help others because at the end of the day, I want to see everyone successful.

That's why I created the "What $5,000 buys on Thumbtack thread."

Recently, at a small business conference, I included this chart as part of my presentation. The highlighted columns are the lead sources we pay for. No acknowledgement of how much we pay, just that we pay something, per appointment. "That Guy!" is as you see, the most effective. It's a relationship with a painting company. We pay him $50 per sale, but only when we win the job. The "That Guy Upsell" is when he tells the potential customer our rate is 20% higher than normal and we pay him 8% commission instead. PRE Networking is the least expensive but better than average win rate.. Angi is the most expensive, followed by Thumbtack. Thumbtack is also where we've spent the most money collectively.

The orange line is our average win rate across the board over the last two and a half years. Sample size is 563 customers, Thumbtack and Thumbtack cleaning is actually more than half of the total at 279.

    Here's our win-rates by source:

    initial_task_completion_by_source_sample_paid.png

One note: we didn't track how many door hangers we hung, just that when someone calls having received our door hanger, they always buy.

"Native" vs. "Cleaning" is our Home Improvement Service vs. our Cleaning Division.

"Guerrilla" note is using the source in a non-conventional way before interacting with the customer. These are often a large amount of work. Speaking of work I have tried very hard to make Thumbtack work over the year and a half we were active.

I wish you all the best of luck, especially @Bretdouglas67

    edit: rephrased for clarity.

Thank you so much. We are all pros trying to help each other. It's an amazing community that cares about each other. I am winding down my career and even as I approach retirement I still want to do a few jobs and stay involved in the community to help mentor with other pros that are just getting started. That is amazing that you're able to track that type of data I'm just a simple Blue collar person who just knows how to help work the Thumbtack system

    Thank you for helping others

    Warm regards Bret Douglas

You gotta know what works and what doesn't. I created a CRM to track all of this and make regular improvements to my CRM to make it work better. Nearly every time I dig into the data, I add another chart or report that allows me to re-evaluate it later with a few simple clicks.

However, if you're diligent, you could do the same with a tool like Google Sheets. That's actually where my earliest data was stored.

    Enjoy the ride, my friend.
